Default 2010 Fat Bob - checking oil level

Ok, noob question here. Got myself a new 2010 Fat Bob (my first Harley and first bike without a center stand) but still waiting on the owners manual to come in from the dealer. Checking the oil level the dip stick refers to the "jiffy stand". Would that be the stock side stand? If so then the dip stick is already calibrated for a reading while the bike is on the side stand, RIGHT?

Also when checking the oil, it's best to have it at normal operating temps.
You can check it cold, and there is a mark on the dipstick for it. But you'll have a more accurate measurement when warmed up.

For me, since I have the V&H Short Shots it means making sure I have a glove on the hand unscrewing the oil cap.

Check oil level with oil hot (20 minute ride) on the jiffy stand allowing 4-5 minutes after shutdown for the oil to return to the tank.

Yeah, I guess it's the right to do -- Checking your oil at temperature. There is such a thing as the Thermal Coefficient Of Expansion of your oil. I guess maybe there's also the possibility of the dipstick, since it is on a swivel, not reading accurately if the oil viscosity is too high and won't let it pivot down to the vertical.

But I've checked mine hot and I've checked it cold. Darned if I can see that much of a difference. But I'll follow the rule book and do as they say. I just slap on my mechanix gloves and go for it.
