Default Primary fluid-How to tell?

I've read various amounts for refill capacities. Service manual say approx 24oz. Also, it states fluid should be at bottom of diaphram plate. How do you tell when the bottom of plate is BELOW the bottom of derby cover opening. Can't see with a flashlight due to the fact that clearance is very close. It's the one thing I do on my scoot that I'm never really sure of. Bike is a 2000 FXDWG. Thanks.

Just put in 24 oz.

It's easier to do with the bike on a lift.

My manual says even with the bottom of the inspection plate with the bike level, TC88. There seems to be many answers to this question.

It is really not a big deal, the oil in question is not under pressure. it pretty much just coats the primary chain, while it is doing it's thing. that said you cannot have too much in it. The oil needs room to work. You can tell simply by leveling the bike. and look for the oil level to approach the bottom of the inspection cover rim. Once you see it your done. Don't fill to the rim edge, thats to much.

My 02 FXD is 26 ozs. which works out to the bottom of the clutch pack. Too much oil could cause shift to neutral problems. The newer Dynas take more and so do most of the newer baggers. Drain from the plug, then pop off the chain inspection cover add the oil there. 24-26 ozs., Hey, CW on the older Dynas there are two covers, the derby (clutch) cover and primary chain inspection cover, it sits about two thirds up on the primary cover. That's a lot of oil to add it to the bottom of the inspection cover.

If you overfill your clutch will slip.

Put the 24oz. in and don't worry about it.
