hello all, i searched and maybe I just dont get it.....
I have a 2004 dyna carb has ness air kit and HAD v&h 2 into 1, had it running very well start right up and run no problems, well I didnt care for the look of a 2 to 1 so I got V&H double barrels Q series and man its all down hill, wont idle very well, I had a 195 and 48 jets in it screwed with a/f screw for 2 days could not dial it in, so I went back to a 42 and 190 and its better top end but still wont idle. i have read about slowing the idle down and turning the a/f screw in to see if it dies and if it does the jet is either too big or too small if it does not die, I just need some guidance on what to try, I just want it to idle better, it was smooth now its rough. I know its a hog i expect it to vibrate but its not smooth.
You went the wrong way on the jetting. A true dual setup requires more fuel on the pilot circuit. I believe most use a 52 or 55 pilot. I will check out some sources and give ya a more accurate info.
Most guys are using 48/195 combo. reinstall these jets and reset your fuel screw to where it was before. Turn the idles screw in about a 1/4 turn and see if your bike requires use of the choke for an excessive amount of time. Anything over 1 1/2 mins on choke required on a cold bike is too much for my liking. If it does take longer than this to run with choke off,you need to go bigger on the pilot. Install bigger pilot until the machine doesnt require excessive choke upon cold startup.
Note. The fuel screw is NOT a jetting tool, Its very limited on tuning range and only controls a very small RPM range and although can be used as a indication of which way you need to tune it cannot compensate for incorrect Pilot jetting.
I have had great luck with jetting to the rich side on HD pilots. Post your results.
thanks guys I will see what it does now with the choke. will put the other jets back in, also it came with a yost tube and I wasnt sure what that was so I took it out. I just need it to idle back like it was.
ok so i changed the jets back to 48/195, dunno what happened but at 2 3/4 turns dang thing runs smooth as it was before? only about 1 to 2 min on choke, it was about 50 when I was working on it so thats positive, i have some pictures i took as I went along will post them up in a minute.
Thanks for your help!
