Default Paint question

I have color tested and found that I like the Rustolium flat black as the closest match to denim black. now for the question:
I am painting my ABS plastic hard bags, should I scuff and prime? or should I just scuff and paint?

thanks folks

You will need an adhesion promoter for the base coat,it comes in spray cans. It's hard to get paint to stick to ABS.

In addition to the Rustoleum have you researched John Deere Blitz Black paint?

It is extremely close to the "Denim" finish offered by H-D, and will be more durable than Rustoleum.

Krylon makes spray paint that's specifically designed for plastic, maybe they have a color that's close.

I used painters touch flat black from home depot to paint my front and rear fender its so close that people cant believe its from a spray can. I also painted a spot on my tank that was scratched to the metal and you can't see the difference in the paint unless you look really close at it in the bright sun

thanks for the advice guys, my biggest concern is getting the pain to stick to the ABS, love the bags, but I bought the cheaper unfinished/build them yourself model so I have to pain them and have been putting it off for a long time. but I need something durable because I occasionally kick the bags after I swing my leg up over my back rest =)

Once again thanks for the help guys, I ended up lightly sanding the ABS plastic then using Rustolium plastic primer. I took NR4TW's advice and checked out the Blitz Black...results...simply amazing!!! The Blitz Black is a perfect match for Denim Black. I did 3 coats and am very pleased with the results, I am waiting for the 36 hour cure time so I can apply a final coat to get rid of a few imperfections that I have noticed. Very happy with the results, cant say it enough, I just hope its as durable as advertised but I am sure it will hold up specially with 4 coats, if not I can easily touch it up.

how they look on the floor

Looks great and I'm glad it worked out for you, I also hope it holds up over the long haul.

I've never used it over anything other than other John Deere paint (or Valspar who makes the JD paint), and their primers, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be compatible with Rustoleum's primer as long it was also primer for an enamel paint.

I'm glad it worked out for you. I'd have felt bad if you spent the time and money on it and it didn't match.

Again, looks great.
