So i took the stock pillion off today (2010 FXDWG) to find the paint underneath is completely jacked. Told my wife the only way to fix it is a complete custom black paint job with Ghost flames. I'm posting this to prove to her this is the only solution...
But seriously, is there a thin pad or runner that can cover this area? Or do i have to put the pillion back on? Thx!!
If its fairly new I'd take it to the dealer and show them Had the same with my SB and the passenger bolt on effort..real cr*p when they supply their own parts that damage the paint that way.I'm not real fussy but get pissed off when it gets down to bare metal !
Sounds like you need to get a custom paint job to fix it.

Supposed to put "pillion seat bumpers" on the fender. Mine hasn't gotten any scratches with the pillion on. Of course, now I've got four rubber squares stuck to the fender. So going solo it looks like crap now...oh well, I just leave the pillion on.
Mine came with a gawd awful looking clear sticker that covered the area under the pillion to protect the paint. I'm sure it's not as noticable on shiny paint, but my denim black fender really looked retarded with that sticker on it, so I pealed it off and bought a bib, which I leave on all the time (even with the pillion on) it has a felt backing that (so far) does a good job of protecting the area.
If you're worn though the paint, you're only solution would be a complete custom paint job from HD [wink, wink, nudge, nudge]
If it is just rubbed paint then you could just get a body shop to buff it out........but more then likely the Ghost Flame paint job is the way to really get it fixed (wink, wink). The ghost flames I want on my ride consist of a black base coat with a black pearl in it / tape off the flames and apply a clear coat with a blue pearl / remove tape and clear coat the whole thing with just a plan clear. Very, very minimal visability, light has to hit it just right to see the flames.......true ghost flames!!!!!
