My factory default (on the Sportster) was 11111. That's good until the code is changed, and onced changed you have to know it or take it to a dealer to be reset.
If you buy new key FOB (proximity FOB), it has to be programmed by a dealer before it will work (at least for touring models)
Once programmed, can change codes on your own per owner's manual (Table 27 in Touring Models manual)
Just went thru this on mine. Dealer didn't charge for the programming (Mike's Harley, Groton, CT). Took less than 10 minutes and they did it as a drop in on a Saturday afternoon
Personal code should be written in your owners manual.
Or it, the owners manual, will describe how to check what the current code is. Of course that will require having a key. At least it, the method to determine the code, is in my owners manual. The manual also shows the method to change the code to a different one.
NEED HELP !lost key fob and system armed with no personal code installed ! is
there a default code set from the factory ?
There is no "default" code from the factory. The system has to be enabled by the dealer as part of the setup process.
My Street Bob came equipped with the alarm system but I asked the dealer not to enable it. If/when I go to sell the Bob, I can have the dealer enable it if the new wants it. Personally, I think the system is more hassle than it's worth for those bikes that still require a key in the ignition to run.
Personal code should be written in your owners manual.
Yea, and not here ! I bet 80%+ of new bike buyers never bother to learn it or change it. May as well tell all the thieves out there how to steal your bike. They now have 3 basic codes to choose from at least !
