Anyone have 1.5" diameter bars?
I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of Carlini Flyin Apes (16 or 18). Wondering if I should go with 1.25" stepped and keep my risers or go with 1.5" and buy new risers.
I like the idea of the meaty-looking bars but wondering if they might look a bit too thick on my FXD. Anyone have the 1.5" version? How do they look (pics if possible!)?
The 1.5 bars ( to me ) look better on the larger bikes , with large headlights, large front ends and fat front tires. Stay with the 1.25 bars and risers, jmo
I think that is what Kevin ment Joe, I believe the 1.25" bars step down to 1" and the 1.5 don't step down at all which is why he would need new risers.
I think the 1.25" will be enough, if you had a big beefy front end then the 1.5" would look good, but the 1.5" would almost make it look like your fork legs just keep going up. On a Bot Boy / Deluxe / Heritage / Road King front end - yes, Mid-Glide - I don't think so. Just my thoughts. Can't wait to see pics.
I finished my gangster Carlini Apes last night. They are 16" but measure 17". The silver bike belongs to a friend and has 18" which measure 19". Love em! The feel is great. They are fat and get lots of attention....Good attention. I had to come to terms with spending this kind of money on a set of bars when you can buy any other kind for half or less but I have not regrets as I got the ones I wanted. Everyone likes something a little different....Thank goodness!
For anyone wanting Carlini Gangster Apes: Cable information!
Very Important-this is correct and is what you need the first time!:
Clutch Cable for Dynas: 78"
Throttle Cable for Dynas: 43"
Idle Cable for Dynas: 43"
Front Brake: 54"
The Cables came from Hill Country Cycles in or around Austin Texas. Let me just say these guys are super great! I ordered the cables one day and had them the next. But with that said I only live about 250 miles from them but they are on the ball. The cables are Motion-Pro and I'm real happy with th quality. I think they can get you most any brand, they recommended these. I told them what I was doing and they knew what I needed. The cables could not fit better! Talk to Chris if you call them. He's good. There was one problem. My clutch cable was a little short but the Carlini bars are different from all others with the sweep in them so I feel as though that was what caused this. I call Hill Country back and they sent me a new one just like I needed before they even had the other one back at no extra charge. The measurements above are absolute for 16" gangster apes. If you want 18" just add 2" to all cables. I'm 6'4" and the 16's fit me great. I can ride my friends with the 18's all day long with no problems though. My 16's are over my shoulders in case you were wondering. If you are conserned about laws you might want 14's. The only complaint I ever hear on apes is: "I wish I would've went taller!" Keep that in mind.

Dynhd1 - thanks for the reply. This was what I was thinking too. I dont want the front end to look out of whack. Save me some cash too since I can get the stepped version and keep my 1" risers.

Joe/Blue Angel/Screamin 110 - thanks for the feedback. More food for thought! I'm gonna mock up some bars with plastic pipe today and then order the bars first thing in the morning. Im leaning to the stepped 1.25". But, Ive got a few hours to change my mind!
