Default Vintage Tour Pak for my Superglide bagger

I picked up a vintage, new in box Tour Pak made for 1969-1982 FLH's the other day on eBay, and bought a bracket for a good deal.

It's gonna take some fabbing, but hopefully, I'll end up with a nice solo arrangement.

Here's some pics....I'll keep adding posts as the conversion progresses. I will eventually paint the bag black to match.

fairing in the future?
stock street glide outter fairing

custom inner fairing (still needs a bit of fab work to make them work but should be awesome)

Cool stuff!

When the bracket gets here, I'll then start holding it on there and come up with ideas for mounting. The mounting is for a Softtail, so fabrication is coming into play. Kinda dreading the fab work for some reason. Tried to get Jackyl to do a solo mount for me, but he wouldn't budge...so out the tools come again.

I went with this bag, because it matches the saddlebags, all Shovelhead AMF~FLH stuff.

Since the Superglide is derived from an FLH, the lines just seem to "naturally flow".

Joe, I got the chopped version and mounted it to a detach solo luggage rack:

Chopped tour trunk arrived today

Thanks.

They key is to get it on there just right.....I don't want to "clutter " the lines of the bike.

I got one of those on eBay last year. Not goin' use it on the Dyna. I'm saving it for a future project on the Shovel. I need a QD solo rack that will fit the FLH.

Ok....update time.

I got all the pieces in, and started assembly.

The bracket:

Works, if you use it the way I did. I removed all the "quick release" parts:

Then backed out my easy bracket bolts, and slid the bracket down. (I had to get longer bolts BTW) I then used the easy bracket aluminum lugs to sandwach the rack between them and the fender strut cover:

Then, I mounted up the tour pak.

Notice how nicely my plate fits in the "slot" looks like it touches in the pic, but there is about 1/4 inch of clearance (dumb luck):

The distance between the saddlebags and tour pak looks too close, but the way the saddlebag hinges work, you can rotate the lid outward at an angle as you lift it up, so it clears.

Nevertheless, I bought some of that clear film to put in several strategic parts of the lid and bottom of the tour pak after painting to protect the paint that much further.

Yes....the tour pak is heading for the body shop for gloss black, to match the bags!!!

Oh...and I got a vintage NOS repo replacement sticker as a final touch:

Anyway, that's an update. I'll post pics after bodywork and paint to fnish off this project and this thread.

I hope this provides future reference to others wanting to do the same.
