Take a putt at 60mph and put your left arm across your chest, like a salute, and see if that fixes the beard-in-the-face problem. If so, try a Jack's Flaps vest, works for me (and my beard)
Considered a shield for my Fat Bob, but I finally decided the wind was part of it all, as in, "being in the wind". But as always, it's yours, do what you want. See alot of my brothers with the ties around the beard, some have several depending on the length.
I cut my regular size HD windshield down some 4 inches, it helped. I switched out the shield last weekend with my touring shield which is not altered and the buffeting was very noticeable.
The only shield that worked for me is the sport shield that HD sells for the Rocker. It is small but it is very curved and aerodynamically better designed. It takes the wind blast off your chest but gives you clean air on you head without buffeting. It's also quick disconnect. The regular shield was designed for riding at 40 mph I think. I couldn't believe how bad the aerodynamics were on it.

I'm with you on that, actually. My plan was to use it longer trips and store it for around town. I start to feel beat up after too long on the freeway and I thought this would be a way to extend my rides.
I have the compact detachable windshield for my Fat Bob. I had incredible buffeting at first. There ar minor adjustments you can make. I put my shield all the way up & tilted it as far forward as I could with it still being properly tightened, most of the buffeting was eliminated. I only use it on cold days or long freeway trips. GOOD LUCK

I don't know, but I would never have been able to ride 4800 miles in ten days without a shield. I like not having to wear goggles or full-face helmets to keep my eyes from watering at 80mph, just my regular glasses work fine. But them I'm one of those old timers who likes to be comfy nowadays. 50+ years on two wheels, riding and racing, so I'm not the stud I used to be, gettin old I guess.
