Default Dyna Clutch question

I looked at a 02' Dyna Low Rider and have a question on the clutch. When the bike is in gear (with engine not running) and you pull in the clutch it feels to be still in gear. Clutch seems to be not working if the bike is not started. If you start the motor (in neutral), pull in the clutch, & put into first gear it is fine and the bike will not move until the clutch is let out 1/4 to 1/2 way. Seems to go thru the gears normal and smooth. Is this situation normal??? Thanks in advance.

Yea, pretty normal, when the oil in the primary is hot the drag on the clutch plates isn't quite as bad, and that is what you are basically feeling. If you start that L/R in neutral(cold engine) putting it in gear will get and sharp clunk. Here's a secret, after starting hold the clutch lever in for about 15-30 seconds, this enables the clutch plates to sling out the oil for better plate seperation and you get just a quiet snick going into 1st. Characteristic of wet clutch in the mornings.
