Default Sissy Bar Install

I purchased a sundowner seat, a low sissy bar with a concave backrest, quick detach sissy bar brackets and a tail light relocation kit. My question is how hard will this be to install myself? I have all the tools and decent wrench turning skills. What do you guys think? Me do it or let the harley shop?

it's all pretty basic mechanics.... I say go for it. you'll have more room and it'll be easier if you remove the back tire, but I remember we just jacked up the bike and let the suspension sag when we did mine, but we fought getting the old hardware out

Easy as pie. Just follow the instructions.
I got my sissy bar used, had no papers, and only took 20 minutes to put the mounts on. Do one side at a time.
The seat has to come off, and the other just slips on.

It;s very easy. Go for it. Just look up posts for the turn signal wiring you can cut them and resolder them. Or you can pull the pins out of the plug end at the tail light. Good Luck

Thanks guys, I going to do it next weekend. I finaly got my first Harley home last night. It was really cold and dark but I was on cloud nine! It had 3 miles on it when i left the dealer. I was told to keep it under 3000 rpms/50mph for the first 50 miles. Just short of ragging on it, will going 60+ really hurt it? I know it has to have time for all the seals and gaskets to set.

Hardest part is threading wires thru signal hollow studs, make sure you have all parts lined up before bolting to fender, I forget small last cap closer to signal casing on one side and had to disassemble it.

I use a fatbob seat for solo and touring seat for 2 up,

Hint, sissybar sideplates won't install over touring seat, sideplates have to be slide in place from behind bike, or before installing seat.

If I did it over I would do it with short stack as pictured below.

My sissy bar is a permanent mount, it just fits in between the frame brace and fender, and the aluminum trim piece. Not sure about the quick detach.
If it's like mine you will just need to remove the fender brace bolts and slide it in. Do one side at a time so your fender don't slide around too much and scratch it.
Depending on who you bought the signal relo kit from it may (or may not) furnish a replacement bolt that will fit the inside fender bracket. The OEM bolt that is left after removing OEM signals will have to be replaced with a neat button head (hopefully in your kit). I put the HD relo kit in (some don't like it, but it suits me ok and wasn't too much money). I did have to buy the addtional fender bracket kit though, I needed it for bags anyhow. I posted a step by step tips album on the rear signal install in one of my albums. Just go to my profile. If your relo kit chrome bar has a larger dia. hole than the HD kit you can just remove the pins from the tail light plug ins and you won't have to cut your wires. They are tricky but a bobby pin works. Do a search on this forum for AMP fittings. MUD showed me how to do it and I had a lot of trouble till I figured I was poking the wrong side. Most ain't as dumb as me, thankfully.
Good luck with it.
