starter switch
I know starter switches on late model harleys have been a problem, such is the case with mine. Its a 08 fatbob, about 48,000 miles on it. Last year i had the typical starter switch problem, turn the bike on, starter kicks in, progressing to the starter kicking in as i go down the road. Harley said it was actually a short in the starter, they replaced it and the the whole clutch pack as well. The bike is no longer under warrenty and the problem has returned. i'm a learn as you go guy, so whats the best way to handle this, any aftermarket starters better? how much of a b!#ch is this gonna be for me to dig into and replace? Appreciate any help or useful advice.
It's not bad to do, remove the battery, the battery box (3 bolts) and there are two bolts holding the starter to the primary. The battery box bolts are torx and the starter bolts are allen head.
But you remarked on the switch, then asked about starter replacement. If it is doing the "typical" starter coming on as you drive down the road, it prolly is the switch. When it starts, pull the plug off the end, green wire, and see if it quits. If it does, switch it is.
