I have a smaller problem. When I acelerate my bob sometimes, about once to five times a day, it sputters or hesitates. I tried searching the forums. I love my bike. I have a k&n high airflow, slip-ons and a download. My family mech. (dad) said I should call the dealer. I thought about the mixture being to rich, thats what it acts like, but i am lost right now. I had all the stage 1 installed by the dealer and I hate going back there. It is also 150mi away. Nice ride tho. It is only 6months old. I don't like the idea of spending that much cash and it sound like it is ten years old and not taken care of. It really bugged me when I was givin it some gas to enter traffic. What if i had to gas in an emergency and it just happen to be that time when it hesitated. That would suck. Now it also seems to do simular things when decelerating. Less often but it does. Is this ok? Is it acceptible? Should I be worried? What you do? Anything would help. If all else fails I guess I could call the dealership. I already know what they will say "you are gonna have to bring it in".
Thanks
Street
You'd probably be money ahead to go ahead and spend about five hundred dollars and get a PCIII and a dyno tune. All the difference in the world. Mine spit and sputtered off idle and all the dealer would say is we checked and it has the right download.Installed the PCIII my self and it ran fine but way too rich, after the dyno tune runs perfect and still gets about 35 to 38 mpg around town and as high as fifty on the road if I take it easy.
Street, take it to the dealer. They may need to change out the injectors. If you can read your injectors, check the number on them. If it says 27625-06 then you have 8* injectors. There is a TSB out that has the dealer change those out to 25* injectors #27709-06A. Hope that's it.
Check the injectors first, if you have the 25 degree ones I would get a SERT and dyno tune.......I got all 3 and no stumble anymore. My bike would cough and stumble all day.
"Hesitation" is never too rich. "Won't rpm" is too rich and the dead give away is the puffs of black smoke out the exhaust. Look at the plugs. "Too rich" is easy to spot.
Funny, I had the exact same problem and others have also. The injector issue is on a Harley Bulletin m-1185. It talks about the injectors being incorrect for the bike and have since been changed. Like the other person said, you need to look at what your injectors say on them. Look under the tank on the horn side of the bike. You are looking for the injectors, they are black and look kinda like a tube about the size of a felt pen only about 3" long or so. What you want to see is if on them is the numbers, if they are 27625-06 then you have 8 degree injectors, if they are 27709-06A 25 degree then you have the newer 25 degree injectors and there is something else causing the problem. I had the 8 degree ones and it was easy to see this because the 25 degree injectors say 25 degree on them.
Do a search in this forum on 25 degree injector and you will see a few people have talked about this problem and myself and others have even posted the bulletin in the forum so that you can print it out and take it to the dealer and MAKE them change them out if you have the 8 degree. I am sure that you have the 8 degree injectors and after you change them you will be alot happier with the bike. Hang in there, if anything, the poeple on this forum are great and they will help you figure it out, just have some patients.
Good luck,
PS use a flash light when you look under the tank for the injectors.
