Super glide owners (or anyone with the silver engine)
I sold my Wide Glide in search of a new project . I was originally going to buy a bagger , but now I'm leaning back to another Dyna . Probably a "plain Jane" FXD . Here's my question....Are the silver cases hard to keep clean ? Do they get dirty fast ? If so , what do you use to keep them looking good ?
I got some stains on mine, dont know where they came from , boot, while doing build, I dont know. Havent tried to clean them yet, might just cover the area with chrome covers.

The flat silver finish on the cases and barrels doesn't show dirt nearly as bad as the chrome parts. I wet mine first, spray with Simple Green, let it soak a few minutes, then rinse it off.
I just scrub the fins about once every couple of months with Wizard Bike Wash. Has stayed looking pretty good after 3 years and 37,000 miles, but I don't worry too much about getting a "showroom" shine.
Simple Green or S100.... or a run through a car wash... you can do that intelligently and keep the blast of water away from electrical areas (like just under the seat) I have washed my frame/engine that way many times... no problems... I do it about twice a season I suppose... the rest of the time is the spray on cleaners.
I live on a gravel road so the grey engine is actually a lot easier to keep clean then a black one would be. Just rinse with a hose. If it gets muddy on the front area I use a soft tire brush. I try to stay away from any cleaners except car wash because some cleaners can actually etch Al.
