You should be able to get a newer model at a lesser price this time of year. I just picked up an 02' FXDL in mint condition w/11k on it for $5500.00.

The bike in the picture is a dyna convertible (fxds); not a low rider (fxdl). 1999 was the first year for the new twin cam '88 engine.

Not to hijack this thread and plug my own Lowrider (for sale!) but I would look long and hard at any bike that old with so few miles. Lots of little rubber pieces can start disentigrating if the bike hasn't been ridden regularly.

When I was in the buying game, I rode some evo's and then found my twin cam. Personally, I prefer the TC engine to the evo, but that's just personal preference. I don' really have a specific technical reason for liking the TC more, but it just felt better when I rode it. Plus, they can take a real beating without needing major repairs (except for the cam bearings).

Ok so there's my two cents. Either way, a Lowrider or the Wide Glide is an excellent choice for Dyna's.

my 98 low rider that i bought last year only had 11k mikes. rode it all summer and havent had any issues. did alot of reading to discover that the evo - especially the later models, is a very solid motor. mine was serviced regularly. it has a stage 1 with a rejetted carb and relly moves off the line. this bike and an 81 sturgis that i had (shovel) both had alot of power in the low gears. the shovel did leave it mark everywhere! i see your point if it the op bike just sat and sat - but each ride has its own story. the ina bearings were an issue on some evos, but the TC has its own quirks also. i'm only countering your statement because th op should know that some think the evo motor is right up there with the TC. i have both btw.

agree with you on the wide glide - cool bike.
