The only time the HD412s bother me, is when I get on a piece of crap concrete roadway, that has the expansion slots cut in... and the roadway is beat up.... that's when they are not so great.... but I've easily done 400-500 mile days on them... of course when you're riding that much, you are usually loaded with 'luggage' and stuff... but even doing a day trip... they still aren't bad.
NOTE: They are also 1/2 shorter than stock... lowered the seat height about 1".

I have a 05 wideglide i have the standard 412 on rear and race tech springs and there gold mod, in front so i am one in lowe in front and back, when i first had the rear done, it was set at pos one i rode down the road and hit a little bump and thought i broke my back, took it right back and told them to take them off, they adj, them up to the 4 slot and made alot of diff but still rides rough but its worth it to me because of the look, i am 200 pounds and very seldom do two up, bike handles like a sporty, and is ok for day trips wouldne`t do across country with it I would pay what ever it cost to have a spring that lowered the rear but gave you some comfort, and like you i don`t want those yellow things on my bike
going with progressive lowering front and rear, using the adjustable drop in kit for the fork tubes and going with an 11" shock out back.
probably going with the 412's for sake of a budget (please don't tell me to get works or ricor or ohlins, thank you.)
my question is HD shocks vs standard duty shocks...
i'm about 180 and ride 2up maybe 10% of the time, and when i do it's not an all day 400 mile ride, it's usually a ride home and then cab fare in the morning.
i'm leaning towards the standard duty shocks and stiffening up the preload a notch when i have someone on the back.
please weigh in and let me know if i'm on the right track...
I'm running the standard 11" 412 and also weigh 180. I ride solo most of the time. I've ridden with my wife a couple times and they were fine for around town which is all the 2-up I want to do with this bike.
