Default quick suspension question...

gonna order some suspension mods for my bike.

going with progressive lowering front and rear, using the adjustable drop in kit for the fork tubes and going with an 11" shock out back.

probably going with the 412's for sake of a budget (please don't tell me to get works or ricor or ohlins, thank you.)

my question is HD shocks vs standard duty shocks...

i'm about 180 and ride 2up maybe 10% of the time, and when i do it's not an all day 400 mile ride, it's usually a ride home and then cab fare in the morning.

i'm leaning towards the standard duty shocks and stiffening up the preload a notch when i have someone on the back.

please weigh in and let me know if i'm on the right track...

I think at 180 you'll probably be OK with the standard duty.
A couple or three guys on here have blown up the standard duty 412s,However I think every damn one of them was over 200lbs.If you get the Heavy Duties do yourself a favor and don't get a LePera bare bones that combination kicked my ***.I haven't tried the standard duty 412s but I can tell you the HD was like riding in the back of an Army 5 ton.

I have run the HD 412 full covers for about 15000 miles. I'm about 225 and ride 1-up 98% of the time. Even fully loaded for cross-country.. I didn't even touch the preload.

I like a firm riding bike tho.... and I installed some chrome Roadglide air shocks to see if I liked them... I'm probably gonna put my HD412s back on.... even though 'everybody' says they are cheap and crap.... etc...etc. They have worked well for me.

You may want the standard 412s however.

I hated riding in the 5 ton or duce and a half, worst ride ever, truley bone jarring.

I ran both the standard and heavy duty 412's. What pissed me off was that the standard shocks were great solo and sucked two up and the HD were great two up and sucked solo. If you truly will be 90% solo, get the standard shocks since you want the best ride you can get with stubby little shocks. Just keep that adjuster wrench handy and be prepared to have to crank them up when the passenger wants to get on. At least thats what I did till I got 440's. Just don't do it in front of the female passenger. Women get REAL self conscience when you have to tighten up the shocks in front of them, so they can hop on the back and go riding.

i have the 412s and they are pretty stiff and im 218 lbs. i wrenched them up right out of the box to match the settings of the OE and almost blew my spine!

Progressive is picking up my bike in an hour or so to install there new lowering kit on it, i will leave some feed back by the end of the week.
