I have a 2009 FXDC with silver motor. I'm upgrading to a 107 kit and wanted to go with the black cylinders. Question is has anyone painted their motor and transmission, what's the prep, results, did it start to flack off or crack?

I talked to HD dealer and they have the paint and said it will look factory if done right just wandering what other people have run into.

Thanks

if you are tearing it all down for a build why not powder it?

I did mine. No real prep. Just clean the motor and use painters tape on anything you don't want black.

Degreased with citrus degreaser, then scrubbed. Lots of it i had a hard time even getting to. If it peel, i'll just re-spray. Most of the engine was already black. I have the stock 09 engine with black fins. I bought the rocker box covers, inner and outer primary cover, trans cove and cam cover in wrinkle black. all that was left to paint was the S&it you can hardly get to anyway.

Yep, its all about prep. I've had a local powder coater do a few parts for my backrest project and the quality is not near what the Powder Pro's do.

Hey Junior, the engine looks great. I love the blacked out look.

Quick question: I thought that powder-coating didn't hold up that well at high temperatures. Is it OK to powder-coat an engine?
