You say that the brakes are not locking up, but have you put the bike on a stand to check for resistance? You may have a bad wheel bearing or stuck caliper. I had an 02 dyna that the previous owner used DOT3 fluid in - expanded the seals and locked the rear caliper. That led to some serious drag......

Oh, no dude, No brake drag, bike rolls very easy. I was just sayin, that's kinda what it feels like. When it warms up a bit, I'm going back out in the garage and tearing the carb and petcock apart.

It''s about -10 Here in Colorado Springs right now.

You might look into them once you isolate and solve your issue ... although it would be pretty lame to have to drop a couple hundred (or whatever those go for) to 'goose' your bike just back to 'adequate' performance ....

Have no experience with Harley carbs; but, is there an 'accelerator pump' ...? I forget what it was my dad and I were working on when I was a kid ... had horrible throttle response and the diaphram on the accel pump had a tear in it ....

Good luck and be sure to follow up ... so, anyone with a similar issue will be able to benefit from your experience ....

Yea, I know it's all solid state, but the module still has to advance the timing under load, albeit electronically. I was just wondering if there was any condition that would cause the module to stay at base timing at all RPM. I suppose I could check this with a timing light.

Lol, its a hardy 65 degs here in Tampa. Good luck man. You'll figure it out; just sucks trying to "identify" the problem.

Another thought....I would check the resistance on the coil and take a look at the plugs? You may have a misgapped or bad plug. Check the wires too - its easy for the connectors to start pulling apart especially if the PO was yanking on them. Additionally, it may not be the culprit but I'd check the tension on the drive chain and belt to make sure they are not overtaught.

Before spending money for Dyno's and others to work on your bike, at least pull your plugs and have a good thorough look at them ? Would of been the FIRST think i personally would have looked at, they will tell you alot about your fuel and air etc...Stay on it and keep a positive attitude, you will learn alot about your bike as you go through it searchin for your problem, and the more you learn yourself, the cheaper it will be for you in your wallet....Good Luck.

Borrow a fuel cap and try that.

Do the carbed bike use a map sensor to determine load? If they do maybe that needs looking into as well.

Just looked through Rene's list of wiring diagrams, he didn't have a 99 but he did have an 01. That diagram shows a MAP (Manifold Air Pressure Sensor in Harleynese) is used with a carbed bike. If it isn't reading properly it may not be telling the ignition to advance under load. Good luck, this **** sucks to figure out.
