I've never heard of stove rope before this thread.I've repacked a few baffles with regular muffler packing material but never seen stove rope before. What is it supposed to be used for? Let me guess, securing your stove pipe to something?

I bought some to seal my wood stove's doors, in the wood stove department of a local ranch and home type store.
10 ounce fiberglass cloth works real good for the packing.
Cut to the right size and use it for the packing. Wrap it tight all the way to the top of the baffle (Just make sure you are at least 3/8" thick.) I use a little bit of "mechanic's wire" to hold it tight. This stuff will last a long time.
Never thought about stove rope. Don't see why it wouldn't work. Steel wool just doesn't last based on my experiences.
I bought some Rush pipes for my wifes V Star 650. The guy had re packed them with stainless steel wool, and man they sound great. Its very nearly as loud as mine with the V & H Propipe needing baffles!
The bad thing about my pipes is that I took out the stock baffles 2 months ago. I threw out the packing that was it. I think that the stove rope will do the trick. Im going to wrap it loose and put some header gasket sealent at the end of the baffle to seal it in the pipe. It should sound pretty good. I will keep everybody informed about what I did and my findings. I might get the Moose muffler packing and try that out for a comparison. Just waiting on the cash to get started.
I used the 5/8 stove rope sliced down the center to repack my vh quiet baffles.used s/s wire to wrap it in place. It was a bit messy at the cut line since the stuff is woven together.but it slide in the pipe nicely and so far (about 5 k ) still sounds like its all there!!NOT LIKE THE JUNK THAT CAME WITH THE BAFFLES THAT BLOW OUT IN ONE MONTH!!!
The stock baffles have a blanket of wrap. Not the loose wrap/fiberglass. So far I have put a few thousand miles on my change over, and I haven't had any loss of the packing. I left the stock blankets in when I did my change over to Cycle Shack baffles.
