Default Speedo Help Please.

Guys, I'm switching bars & tank on my 08 FXD.

According to the service manual & FXD2003Ryder's diagrams, the speedo harness connects to one plug on the main harness & splits off going back towards the speedo - one plug goes to the speedo & the other plug to the indicator lights.

Am I making sense? The speedo mini-harness is different on the FXD than other dyna's.
My FXD did not have idiot lights when I bought it. I need them for my 2010 wide glide tank swap. When disassembling everything, the speedo harness had no plug for idiot lights (as if it were never there).

So when i buy them, where will i plug them into as the "factory plug" i believe is missing. Should i buy a NEW FXD speedo harness & lights? or maybe a fxdb harness & lights?

This is exactly the case on that wiring harness .... same as my 2006. Now, I seem to remember reading on here that there are differences in the idiot light pods on some of the later models. The lights on mine are individual lights that slide into a plastic housing .... I think the other style was a circuit board.

I could be completely wrong about the differences, but I would confirm so that you get the parts you actually need. Mud might know for sure.

Did you look at the wiring diagram in the electrical section of your manual ...? I was just looking at mine this afternoon; but, I have an '05 so not sure if it would help with yours ....

It shows the wire/colors for the indicator lights ... can you tell if maybe the plug was shoved down into the frame or something ...? You should be able to get Deutsch or Molex connector to use if you have the plug .... Also you could consider a butt connector or soldering the leads (recommend using shrink tube to waterproof the connection if you go that route) ....

so mud should i just buy an fxdb harness/lights?

I'm guessing the stock FXD style lights wont fit into the new dash. And will the fxdb harness plug back into the main harness the way mine does now?

Thanks everyone!

When I swapped my FXD tank out and went with the WG dash I just bought a wiring harness for a Street bob. It plugged right in and comes with the dummy lights. It ran around $100 I think and is the easiest route.

The stock Fxd lights won't fit and like mud said not sure it would be long enough either. Would take a lot of splicing were the FXDB harness is plug and play.

thanks bberck, that's what i'll do.

But i'm pretty sure the fxd harness would be long enough. my speedo is sitting on top of 8 inch rise t-bars right now. not that it matters.
