Yep. I got it but I messed something up. Actually the photo's helped a lot.

I wanted to use all five wires but when I did, the bike wouldn't start. I unplugged my tach and it started. From there I pulled wires from the pug until my bike started but the tach doesn't work. So now I'm trying to identify the wire(s) that will get the tach and illumination working.

I'll have to buy more terminal and try it again.

Mark, you can probably use the harness in the first picture below.

item # 18

(doublecheck me on this)

.
In the image below, item # 21,

this is the harness that comes in the HD 05/prior dual kit
.
.

.
.
Below, item # 16, is the stock harness for my 006 FXD, and others.

I used the kit for my dual setup,
and cut the Tach portion of the kit wiring off.

Spliced that section into my stock harness.

Because the kit harness is too short to fit back into the frame
(on the 05 and earlier, the harness plug tucks in under the headlight mount)

Mine stays lit all the time (when key is on).

I noticed you said yours had 5 wires. The HD tach I installed only used 3 wires, Signal, power and ground. The power and ground worked when I plugged the 07 FXDSE harness into my bike but the signal wire didnt.

Wow, thanks Mud,
asked my stealer about the harness, he said I had to buy it all separate. I will go back armed with that part No. As for the clamp, I've got a No 19 on order. should be same as the speedo right. If it don't fit I'll have to get the No 9 twin clamp.

Thumbs up Got it working

Thanks to a lot of help from Jim, I got it working. I had the pin-out wrong on the plug. I looked at the manual but a picture of his plug and a phone call to him solved my problem.

By the way. I was getting 1.3 to 1.6 vdc from the serial wire (pin 2 on the plug) at 1000 rpm... if anyone cares.

Thanks everyone

Mud, we did not extend the wires. Actually, i think we left the plug outside the frame (when I say "we" I mean a buddy who actually did it), although not sure. I'll ask my buddy and see if he remembers. I think the plug may now be "visible" by the fork neck, just above the lower tree.

Like someone alse said...its amazing how many wires they cram into a small opening.

Default Wanna do this too....

I have a 2007 FXD. From what I can see HD only supplies a tach kit for 04-05 FXDs.

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

Has anyone tried fitting this on a 2007 or later FXD? Is it plug and play or do I have to buy a harness extension? (I Mud has a 2005)

Ive read this thread but wound up more confused--but I am a little slow!

Wonder why HD doesnt suppy a kit for 2006+ dynas--surely just be a slightly different harness extension?

Cheers.
