Default new SuperGlide

Hello. I am the proud of owner of an '05 Super Glide and my first HD. I have added the detachable side plate with a mini rail for when my son is on the back. I am looking to turn this into an FXDL ( for ride position) without the $ associated with initial purchase price. I'm also looking to let a little growl out the engine without terrorizing the neighbors when I spark it up at 0600. So, I would welcome your input on pipes ( an admittedly subjective issue), and foot controls, Highway pegs and seats....thanks in advance.

I don't do pipes or seats so I can't help you much there.

You'll probably want to change the grips and in my opinion, Kuryakyn Iso Grips with a throttle rocker are the best. If you get those, you'll probably want the foot and highway pegs to match. Regarding mounting highway pegs, I believe the best way is to mount an engine guard then mount the highway pegs to the engine guard using clamshell type clamps. If you plan on doing a lot of highway riding, you should consider a windscreen. It is not essential, but sure lessens the fatigue on longer rides.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy the new ride!

Pat

Howdy, welcome to the forum. It already sounds like you have been given some good advice. Good luck with your ride.

I have an 05 FXDCI and I added a quick release windshield and lowers (Memphis Shades), highway pegs, quick release sissy bar low back and t-bag setup. I love the bike and the ride, the windshield with lowers is a must and I would recomment the SE II's for the sound you want -- however it may be a bit too loud for 0600! Good luck and have fun!

since this was first posted, I have been ( willingly) talked into highway pegs instead of Fwd controls for now. They look really good with the HD airfoil pegs and airfoil shifter peg, and are extremely comfortable. I have ordered and am eagerly awaiting delivery of SE pipes and stage I aircleaner and jets- we'll see what the neighbors reaction is after I install this stuff- thanks for your replies

Steven

Welcome to the forum,

And for jets, what are your plans?

I would suggest a 46 low, leave the stock High (190) in there and shim up the needle with 2 - #4 washers, readjust the idle mixture after pulling out the concealment plug and adjust it for the highest & steadiest setting, usually found about 2 1/2 to 3 turns open after you LIGHTLY seat it.. Doesn't get any better than this even with the kits available and this mod will set you back about $4-$5 total
You can see how to set up the carb in the do it your self section.

Congrats. I also have an '05 SuperGlide. I went with a BAR Hitchiler Seat and 11" progressive shocks to lower mine. Last Thurs. I finally got the sseat installed (Okay Clammy...I'll try ang get pics up tomorrow and a report later in the week, after I get some miles on her.)
and put the original shocks back on...may go back to the progressives, although they sure make getting a jack underneath a bitch. I had the bilke on a 4x4 in the front and a 2x4 in the back and still had trouble with the jack...but I made the stupid mistake of taking the shocks off first. It sits really low without any shock!
I also have the Kuryakin ISO grips w/ throttle rocker. Look and feel great. I also have the engine guard, and highway pegs, mid high sissy bar and luggage rack, SEII slip-ons, SEII air kit and EFI re-map. These are great biles! Hope you enjoy yours and that I get a chance to get some decent miles on mine. Art

to TCSTD, well i'm not sure about the jets and here's why. If everyone here can keep a secret....when I ordered the pipes and SE A/C kit, I told the parts guy I would be installing the stuff myself, to which he scratched the jets and associated labor from the order form and said, are you ready, they'd already installed the upgraded jets before I took delivery since the thing runs so lean as to be unlivable when bone stock. When my new toys show up this week, this statement should easily verifiable and I have an extremely cool dealership or I have been punked. This order also included the ISO grips. How about mirrors, I get a great view of my own shoulders with the stock setup, anyone tried the Ness'?

I just traded a 2004 1200r Sportster on a 2005 FXDI. My neighbor commented how nice and quiet my new bike is (compared to my Sporty) and that it doesn't wake up her three year old at 06.30 in the morning. I sort of tried to break the news to her husband that new pipes are on the way.
