This has been debated before with no real winners, some say yes and others say no. I'm running both on my built 103" and can't tell either way. Some say you can gain 1hp with plugs & wires but are you actually gonna feel a 1hp increase? Most will say they get better throttle response and some say better mileage but the way I look at it is, if your seeing that much of a difference, it's not because one brand is better than the other, it just means your old ones were shot.
When I make big orders from Zanotti's or other places I usually can get small things like that thrown in for free. I don't know if they make a difference or not but I got them for free so I use them.
Ive always been amazed and some of the claims that have been made over SP wires and plugs over the years.
when i have point blank cornered someone over topics, it usually turns out that the poster has a severely neglected bike/car and has a missfire on something like that, and then bolts on new stuff and tells everyone how wonderful (fill in the gap XYZ) product is!!
One guy on another board runs a tuning shop and tells me that XYZ plugs or wires suck, i say way, hes says "cuz they just do" im like WTF lets get scientific here, whats the deal??
turns out buy some strange chance of luck that 9 out of 10 cars that come in just so happen to have XYZ plug wires or plugs in it. Then he puts in HIS favorite part and proceeds to tell all how great it is.
I have never used SE wires, im sure they are fine, (until they wear out) and like every other wire or plug ever made, they need to be replaced.
I talked with a Japanese engineer from Mitsubishi a few years ago, and he told me that on his car, he replaced his SP wires every 2 years. I asked why and he stated that as hot has the factory ignitions are these days, the wires are out of there peek service in two years, and after that they will deteriorate more and more after this time.
I submit to you, that if this is the case, dont be fooled buy radical claims of HP or added performance.
Just maintain you ride the best you can, all will be fine.
BTW i use Magnecor and MSD wires, and i just make my own at home from bulk stock.
I went with the orange SE wires purely for cosmetic reasons. I was considering grabbing some SE plugs just to match up, but with everything else on the motor stock, i'm not expecting any extra performance.
I might offer up a product for your consideration. The E3 plugs. I installed a set on my WG and am amazed at the difference.
Tell us more RJ...........Historically the only difference between brands of plugs are price and longevity. If I could be sure a spark plug could make significant difference, I wouldn't care how much they cost.
