Default Cam Change - O ring help

I did a cam and head gasket change (thanks to the people for the help on the head gasket). Anyway, I'm putting things back together and it got late so I new I wasn't going to finish. As I was putting things away (making room for the wife's car) I ran across this O ring (see attachment). I hate to say it but I can't figure out where it goes ??? I don't remember seeing anything like it in the tear down. I took photos as I was working and don't see anything in them. I looked in my parts manual and don't see it in the exploded views and don't seem to recall mention of it in the service manual. The O ring is just a little over 2". It came with a Cometic Cam Kit - I tried to cross reference the numbers on the cometic box but came up with nothing. I believe the kit is for 1999 and up - I have a 2009 stock St.Bob.

I won't be able to get back to work on the bike until Tuesday or Wednesday evening but as you probably know this is one job that I don't want to have "extra" parts. Not a good feeling.

Need help (please).

Jimmie

That's what I thought too. I didn't pull the pump out and I thought maybe it went behind ??? Also thought maybe it went to an earlier engine design - the kit number says 99 and up.

Still hoping for a diffinitive answer. Having an "extra" motor seal is not the same as having an extra screw from a DIY garage cabinet.

Jimmie

Also both dealers around here are closed on Monday, so I can't plead my case to a service mechanic - plus I bet I'll get my answer here.

At lunch I was looking at the DS Fatbook - in the Cometic section it looks like there is an "outer oil pump O ring" for 99 - 06 that probably came in the kit (mine is an 09). I'm feeling a little better but still would like to know for sure.

I know this isn't it but looks like the starter seal. Doesn't make sense coming in that kit though.

most of the earlier bikes use an oring behind the rear cam gear your bike dosnt require one if it did there would have aready had one behind it when you took it off,,,,, ive been thriugh the same thing the directions for my cams showed one but i didnt have in the kit so made a call to andrews and they told me the later bikes didnt use it

I'm pretty sure that o-ring isn't used on the '06 and newer Dyna with the new style oil pump.
