1. Forget the mileage guage. Calculate MPG by gallons in to miles driven.
2. E10 gas or other Cali gas blends destroy mpg ratings
Do nothing until you:
Add exactly 3 gallons of gas at each fill up and log mileage for 5 fill ups. Then see how far 15 gallons of gas took you. That will be your accurate mpg.
Hey Joe - it's suppose to be 4.5 tank, but even when I am at less than 7 miles left to ride (the alert you get on your speedo) I can never put more than 3.5- 3.6 gallons in. How come? I used to get approx. 150 miles out of a tank, it's gotten worse recently. Should I get it dyno tuned by a professional?
That's the same problem I have on mine. I can only get 3.5 or so into a 5+ gallon tank. I think it has something to do with the reserve tank that's why I asked if you have one.
How does adding EXACTLY 3 gallons of gas at each fill up for five times tell you ANYTHING? What if you use MORE than 3 gallons between fill ups? What if you use LESS? If the tank holds 4.5 gallons, thats a gallon and a half of possible error at each fill up!
Guys, I don't have a tank lift - tho I was considering getting one from Jackyl..
I realize that doing all the performance mods would change the mileage but damn... I went from riding close to 170 on one tank to around 140 and recently it dropped to 110.. I will try to test it out and let ya know. I also wonder about that 'reserve' deal.. If when I fill it up and it fits only 3.5 does it mean that there's a gallon still in that I'm actually not using?
I fill up with 98 Octane - whatever is suppose to be the best according to my dealer..

carbed bikes have a reserve feature. no gas gauges, so when you start running out of gas, you just turn the petcock from on to reserve so you can get to a gas station. and if you have a 4.5 gallon tank, and it only takes 3.5 to fill it..................here's your sign.
where in the hell do you get 98 octane?! best we have around here is 93
I have a 2010 Bob with PCIII, Python 2-1 and stage 1 SE A/C... I fill up the tank and it says I have 190 miles left (on full).. I end up getting around 110 miles on a full tank. WTH? Do you have any idea as to what I should do to increase the miles?
Your fuel guage must be out, leaving a gallon left in the tank when it says empty. Any way of going for a ride and taking some spare fuel in a container strapped to the back or something. Then you could ride it until it runs out and see what the true tank range is.
Even with a tank lift I would imagine that you could fill it up to the top, but could throw the guages out.
