This sounds like another stupid question but does it matter that i connected the wires to the new ignition directly with female connectors instead of using a three way connector (like what was on the old switch)?
Will rewire tonight so that the bike will not turn over in the ACC position, probably need to undo everything and see if I can find what I did wrong.
Thanks everyone!
The type of termination doesn't really matter so long as it is clean and does not allow the connections to short against the metal it is mounted to or on. Fully Insulated connectors would be best.
If you cannot remember or are unsure what wire goes where, go to the back of your service manual and read the electrical diagram ... it shows the wire colors on the line diagram ....

I did manage to use fully insulated connectors, plus I put some dielectric in each connector.

Well I wired them up following one of the post on how to move the ignition from this site. Then it didn't start and I checked and found another post about how to wire and changed them to that, then still no start, I got the manual out and it matched the last wiring (the current) I have. But I can also turn the switch to ACC and turn the motor over. So somethings amiss.
Just realized I had to take the new switch apart to get the two halves in the new hole. When I took the snap ring off the switch it kind of jumped apart so I didn't get a good look at the enards. Basically three small springs with C shaped slides? that sit on top of the springs to slide back and forth as you turn the ign.
Is there any way to put the springs/C shaped slides in the wrong order?
Is this an HD switch or an aftermarket switch? What happens when you turn it to ignition, does it crank in both ACC and IGN positions? What about in the OFF position?
Found an interesting mistake??? The 2 images show opposite hookups for the switch. Both are from the HD manual.

I bought it aftermarket (ebay) it is for HARLEY SOFTAIL FLH FXD IGNITION SWITCH WITH ROUND KEYS, i'll see if I can post a picture. Yes it does crank in both the ACC and IGN position with the way it is wired right now. I have not tried to crank it in the off position.
