Fork seals leaking...

Fork seals leaking...
So, I'm out in the garage yesterday and, walking by the bike, I see a puddle of oil under the front end. [The bike sits level in a condor] The whole front end of the bike is covered in oil, even the brake caliper. The left seal is blown completely and the right side is leaking as well.
The bike has 16K on it, and I've never had any problems with the seals before. Is this common, or is this an unusual thing to fail?
The bike is at the dealer being fixed. Harley ESP picking up the tab...

On my 07 FXDB, by 15k miles my fork seals had been replaced 3 x’s. On the 3rd time the dealer got tired of replacing them and replaced the entire fork assembly thinking there was a manufacturing defect. It now has 40k without an issue.

Mine started leaking at around 17,000 miles. I've got 22,000 on the bike now... I keep telling myself, when the weather gets bad enough not to ride, I'll change them out. I just wipe the oil off of the forks after every ride.
