Default Paint question...

Recently bought a new seat (Sundowner) to replace original on the bike. Well today I was taking the seat off to hook up my battery and other odds and ends. When I took off the seat I noticed that the fender under my seat was scratched in multiple spots and in one spot down to the primer. This didn't happen with the other seat. Any suggestions? I put the orignal seat back on and was contemplating taking the fender off to have it refinished.

I'm assuming you mean contact points where the seat is rubbing the fender?
The stocker had little neoprene type pads to prevent this.

Get some of that clear coat stuff for fingernail polish and apply to the rubs. Then put some small pads or loop side of industrial velcro at the contact spots and ride on.

They sell seat bumpers at the dealer you can stick on but I am sure you could buy something like it about the same cheaper to use because I think they a kind of pricey there.

Presumably, once you install the bumpers - the scratches will be covered.

That's just the start of a fine patina finish.

any number of things affixed to the bottom of the seat will solve this, but the biggest consideration is before installing the seat, wipe all dirt and dust off the fender.

I would be concerned. If it rubbed through the paint it will rub through the primer exposing bare metal which will leave it vulnerable to rust.

That and I would know it was there so thus it would bug me.

Which would get rubbed off by the seat...

I covered the bottom of my seat with felt...plus I have the rubber bumpers on the fender.
