So I took the bike out this past weekend for the first time since last fall.I had put fuel stabilizer in it,filled the tank and ran it to be sure stabilized fuel filled the carb.It seems to be fine at normal speed and at idle, but when slowing to almost idle, like taking a slow turn, the engine stutters and jerks and surges until I hit the throttle a bit to get engine speed up a bit.I plan to run it for some more miles to see if it clears itself before taking any real steps, just thought I'd throw it out here to see what you guys think.
I've read that today's gas blends (ethanol) separate in a few weeks and most fuel stabilizers don't prevent this. In the past, with straight gasoline, the stabilizers worked, heck I stabilized two 55 gallon drums with PRI-G in 1999, then used it in 2005 and my cars ran better than with the fresh pump gas.
Such is not the case anymore with the blends, though a few products now on the market claim to help with this issue.
During this separation, the uncombustable junk goes to the bottom of your tank and is of course the first to arrive in your engine's combustion chamber.
I put fuel stabalizer in my bike late fall. I put a little extra in, thinking it would be better than not enough. 2 months later took my gas cap off and the gas had a horrible smell. I drained it out and put fresh gas in with sea foam. Didn't seem to have any problems.
I had the same problem today, my bike hasnt been ridden in 4 months. I didn't put any stabilizer in mine. I had good power but the idle sounded rough and stumbled a few times in the low rpms, even worse when I lugged it down some. I'm going to fill up with fresh gas tomorrow and try it again depending on the weather. Hope this fixes your bike also.
