Default security "key" light

Finally hit 50 degrees here in Northern Minnesota so i decided to take the bike for a spin. I noticed the security "key symbol" light came on and stayed on. I DO NOT have a security system on the bike. Only thing i did electrically over the winter was install a V&H fuel pack. Do i need to reset something on the bike after i unplugged the ecm? Any other thoughts?

This key is also your bike's diagnostics...it flashes error codes (DTC = Diagnostic Test Code). You say it came on steady so there is a stored code - need to get correct procedures to retrieve the codes from your bike...

Mine did the same thing this past weekend plus the left turnsignal didn't work. Dealer replaced the plug in module that makes your turn signals operate as run-brake-turn. This is on a 2011 limited.

number 1 on the instructions list... but it's the key so never mind...

"Be sure the main and handlebar switches are in the off
position during the installation process. Failure to do
this will cause the “check engine” light to be set."

I had the same problem after relocating turn signal lights and it turned out to be a pinched wire. I don't know how that could have happened with work you did but I would check all the wires in the light circuit.

Got it figured out! When i hit the right turn signal switch i could hear "for the lack of a better term" what sounded like a mouse squeakin under the console! It didnt make this noise when i hit the left turn switch. I took the consol off and like John, there was a pinched wire! It must of happened when i took the console off over the winter to shine up the tank. All is good now
