I'm sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong area but I wanted to get your guys opinion on swapping out my stock Air Cleaner !? I have a 2010 Super Glide Custom with no engine mods what so ever. My question is, if I put on an aftermarket intake such as the Performance Machine piece will I need to have a Tuner also or can I wait until later when I install pipes !? have been told the o2 censors should compensate for the extra air and it should run fine until the time I put the pipes on ,then I should add the tuner and have it Dynoed ?? but of course my local Harley store boys are saying "OH NO" you need to do it all at once or not at all ?? any help would be great gang...Thanks, Roger
I say you need a tuner even if you change nothing on your harley... but YMMV. down here the gas is a lot worse than the US, too hard to run this crap on a stock ECM.
I'm gonna say that just changing the intake will make it run leaner. It's already set up lean and I doubt the ECM will compensate enough. Are you trying to get more performance or just change the look?
Free flow intake will be OK.
I would definitely make your next upgrade to a fuel programmer.
This will be the most important upgrade for getting a good running ride.
Figure out how much money you want to spend and then do some good research.
I recommend a Dobeck EJK at $250. Best unit for the money hands down.
Go to a Revolution Performance EMS at $650 If you have the money.
These are both do it yourself units with no dyno needed.

well for right now it is more of a looks only thing ! can't stand the big ol' factory cover that's on it, and since I can't afford to do the pipes and tuner along with it I thought just the intake would be an easier an less expensive change for now !? but at the same time I don't want to screw any thing up just for a cosmetic change
ok so who is right !?? so far I have the same info I had before I put this post up !? lol !!! one says yes it will be fine and another says no wait and do it all at the same time ??
Opinions are like behinds, everyone has one, none of the above are wrong.
With just the aircleaner you wont hurt it.
With just mufflers you wont hurt it.
A tuner can make it run better than stock even if it is stock.
A tuner with an airfilter will be better again.
A tuner and mufflers are the same deal.
A tuner with air and pipes will unleash its full potential in that engine configuration.
Some tuners are better than others, that is a whole new kettle of fish.
Hope this helps mate.
Thanks brother !! that was more what I was getting at !! so now that you brought it up, what is the best tuner for the money and will it need to be dynoed with the addition of a tuner ?? thanks again for any info....
First of all are you going to do it yourself?
You can find plug and play units that need no dyno. Others you need a laptop to program. And then some that need a good dyno tune and pro install. And I'm sure I missed some others.
For what you are doing, a plug and play will work great.
You are going to get so many different suggestions here that it might make you confused.
Invest in some research time. Check your bank balance. Then choose.
That being said.
I am using a Dobeck Performance EJK, and recommend it.
I ran an air cleaner by itself for a while with no problems. When I added the tuner I really noticed a big change. The bike ran cooler and smoother. Your O2 sensors will not compensate for the difference, that is not how they work. I could go into a real detailed explanation but do a search on how they work and you will learn.
