Default Solo Seat Question

Hi,

I have a 2011 Super Glide Custom. I replaced the stock seat with a Mustang Tripper Solo seat. I love the way it looks, and the density of the foam. The quality of the seat in general is top notch.

At first, I thought the seating position was pretty close to the stock seat, but now that I've ridden on it for a few hundred miles, I'm starting to think that it is pushing me forward an inch or so. Or maybe it's just that the rounded step of the stocker is now replaced with a more rigid backrest area. Either way, I'm finding myself trying to shove myself backward, and being unable to because of the pronounced edge of the backrest.

So, I'd like some opinions from others that may have some input on this particular problem... what seats have you tried, and how have you liked them.

For comparison, I'm a little over 5'10", and my inseam is 32 inches. I have forward controls on my bike, but I tried it with mids before I switched, and it was the same in both cases.

Thanks,
Art

Maybe this is common amongst the mustang solo seats. My vintage solo did the same thing, moved me about an inch forward, but it actually worked for me and my posture on the bike.

Hi Art, I'm also 5'10/32 inseem and have a Mustang Tripper on my Fatbob with forwards and yet I feel just right when seated on the bike compared to the original stock seat. I have street slammers on my bike which help positioning with the seat and I feel I sit more in the bike and lower than the stock seat. I recovered mine with heavy grade tooling leather (done by myself) and now in its second year the seat is moulding to my shape. The foam density of these seats is excelent and I can ride all day on mine without too much discomfort.

Where the step in the stock, two-up seat was kind of rounded, and allowed me to sit a little further back, this hump seems to push me a little bit further forward, and sliding back up against it isn't particularly comfortable. On the other hand, it does keep me from falling off the back when I nail it! Here is a picture of my seat on my bike, taken before I put the forward controls on it...

Laroc, I also have flatter bars, mine came off a Fat Bob. But if you look at your seat compared to mine, it doesn't seem surprising that mine puts me a little further forward. Yours looks like the hump is a little less prominent... maybe it's just the pic, or maybe your heavy leather has tamed it a bit. Nice cover, BTW.. My mom did a lot of custom leather and upholstry, and I still remember her tapping on the leather tools while I was growing up. She made a lot of saddles, holsters, rifle scabbards, etc. Sadly, she's long gone now, or I'd just send it to her and tell her what I want.

I debated between this seat and some others... but all I could do is look at pics and read online reviews. I don't know anyone that has any of them I could go sit on and try. The Lepera Bare Bones looks like it would probably put me as far back as possible, but everything I read about them suggests they're pretty uncomfortable for more than shot hops. The Silhouette looks to me to be pretty similar with regard to where you sit, at least from the pictures I've seen. One of the guys at the bike shop told me yesterday that he was about to get a Silhouette solo for his Wide Glide, and I'll give that a try once he gets it...

If you are really unhappy with it then take it to an upholster and have him take some of the foam out of the back where the "hump" is. I had my stock seat redone with stiffer foam and used it for a long time before buying the same seat you have...For me it just took a little getting used to...To each their own.

I also had that idea as well. There's an upholstery shop not too far from where I live, so I may check into that this week.
