Let me start off by saying sorry if i dont make alot of sense been working all night. And i have tried using the search button, but at work and internet is slow. Anyways my problem is I am doing a handlebar swap, on my 2010 FXDWG. And i need to change risers, and my stock risers had the threads in them so i just screwd the bolt to that. but the new 2" risers are just hollow. (is this normal for aftermarket risers or should i get a different set). But if i keep the ones i ordered i need a longer bolt and a pair of nuts to install. Is this safe .
are we talking where the risers mount to the tree, or the bars mount to the riser???
i think youre talking about mounting the riser to the tree, but either way i think it would be odd for there to be no threads on the risers??? got a pick or link of the new risers?
That is normal for the type of riser you bought. Sounds like the bolt will go through the riser and come out the bottom of the tree. then put lock washer and nut on and you are good to go.
Take the riser bottom to the store to make sure you get the right size bolt to fit in the riser and not interfere with the handlebar placement on it.
Yeah sorry forgot to include that i meant bolting it to the trees. here are two pics (not the greatest quality) And the link form j&p. http://www.jpcycles.com/product/5000375
Now if i can just get a longer bolt . Should i go with a grade 8, but what about the threads on it (or does it matter seeing how i gotta get my own nut. Thank you
Go with the grade 8 bolt and don't forget to use a locknut and loctite. You can go course thread, probably like 1/2" bolt, 20 pitch thread. Good to go...
Hey man, bring one of your risers with you to make sure you get the correct size of bolt and measure the thickness of the top triple tree so you get a long enough bolt. Like stated before it is most likely a 1/2" bolt grade 8 will be fine, but a coarse threat standard is 13 tpi and fine is 20 tpi. I would go with either but I also would run neoprene locking nuts since it is a bolt nut setup. Honestly kind of shitty that they didn't provide all of the needed hardware for a non standard setup.
