I've used several methods.

1) Turtle wax chrome polish works great.

2) If the rust is a little deeper than just surface rust, I've used a wire brush and some wd-40. The $1 wooden-handled wire brushes at the hardware store work great. I've also used the wire brush dremel attachments as well.

If it's surface rust (not into the chrome) use a wet piece of aluminum foil. can't help you with the black painted stuff.

0000 steelwool will take it right off. Of the chrome I wouldn't use it on black

I use 0000 on surface rust on hot rod all the time. Works good. No rust on HSBC yet.

An SOS pad will do it also.

I went to home depot and bought a bottle of diamond bright. Worked like a charm and brought out the "like new" finish and color to it.

Like the others said 0000 steel wool on the chrome. As for the black I don't have a clue.

"Bar Keepers Friend" in the powder form. About $1 for a five year supply. This stuff will truly amaze you. Just keep your rag damp when you use it and make sure to use clean water to rinse when you are done.
