I really like my Nelson Rigg tank/tail bag. I normally attached it with magnet system to the rear fender (over my passenger seat). And if I have a passenger, I can move the bag to the tank - it's a bit big for the tank, but it works in a pinch.

I like the look of the Biker's friend one, but their prices are a bit higher than I'm wanting to pay right now.

They are nice though.

Motherswell may be the best way to go now, barring finding a used rack somewhere.

capacity on the saddleman is 1300 and that is not enough, need about 1800 or more to carry jacket and helmet depending on configuration of the bag.and what you want to carry

Have any of you folks who have used the Motherwell rack had any instances of the rack flexing side-to-side causing scratches, etc.?

Looking at the design of that rack, with the triangular piece that attaches near the seat, I guess you'd have to use some sort of pad there to keep from scratching the paint.

Sorry for the seemingly inane questions, but I've not had a rack like this before.

My Rack had a rubber pad under the said triangular mounting plate..
No scratches on mine after 3 years, however it sure has polished the denim to gloss at that spot.
These racks look great, and work very well for small balanced items (bungeed or straped things). Even Motherswell cautions against anything over 10lbs (I think).

No damage to the paint at all. The rubber piece where the rack mounts to the fender does a good job protecting the plate.

I have not felt any side to side flex at all. the rack mounts very securely to the fender.

I've stuffed enough into a T-Bag Switchback (I think that's the model) for a 3 day trip and was probably able to keep the weight around 10 lbs. Maybe a little over when I bungee'd my jacket to the bag.
