I am commuting rather frequently on my 2010 Street Bob, but the hassle and weight of carrying my stuff in a backpack while riding is starting to bother me.
Are there some cost effective ways to rig up a tail bag or something similar on my bike?
It's all stock, with the 1 up seat and no rack or anything. I was thinking of either going with a sissy bar and bag, or just putting a rack on there and tying a bag to it.
I went with a fender rack. It's pretty versatile - can strap a bag to it or just bungee stuff directly to it.

I'm thinking of going with the Harley Rigid Solo Rack, or something similar. Would I be able to strap a Kuryakyn Daily Tour Bag or something similar to that?

The one above is just a 'Bikers Friend' clone $50, get to work, carry in like a duffel bag.. Great bang for the buck..
As far as HD's Detachable Solo Rack...
I thought you were looking for cost effective ways, The HD detach Solo Rack is nice but not 'cost effective'. The HD rack can be used to mount really anything you have in mind. Even a pad for two-up.
Heres a couple shots with trunks.. Nice that its quick on and off.
ive been straping a saddleman bag on a motherwell solo rack for two years works fine. but not enough room.going to go to the harley overnight bag 93300005 so i can carry a 3/4 helmet sweatshirt, and rain jacket, gloves and a few other items.seems to have the room for what i need
Don't know which is more sturdy since I only have first hand experience with the Motherwell. I will say that I've had it for a bunch of years now and no problems.

I've since found that Motherwell makes a nice looking one, but they don't look as sturdy as the Harley one.

My first post is with a Motherswell rack, works great under the Bag, (keeps it off the paint).
I however, have to agree with jojo2dog as this set-up works great, its just not enough room for overnighters..
