Can anyone tell me if the fork lock/fork stops are the same on my '05 Low Rider as an '05 Wide Glide? I'm sure you know where I'm going with this....
Kyle
I would assume they are the same because Harley Davidson could use the same neck with lock on all the Dyna's as opposed to having one that is different just for the Wide Glide. I know for a fact they are the same on the 2006 model's Link. I had the same concern when I did my conversion and figured if they were not identical I could either trim the stop or J.B.Weld some shims on them and elongate the hole for the lock.
I have an 04 lowrider, I installed a 2000 softtail standard front end on. It was a bolt on operation as far as the neck goes. I reshaped the fender tabs to fit the wider front end and only chipped the paint in a couple of places. You will have to change the front wheel or wheel bearings also. I had to replace the axle because the stock wide axle was undercut in the center where the bearings would ride. I got a kit from precision engineering that included the axle, axle spacers, and rotor spacer. As far as the 06? I would think the neck and trees would be the same. The lower end, brakes, fender, etc.? By the way total cost around $1100 and that is myself doing the work. Would I do it again? Yes, however I think I would get a conversion kit instead.
