Default Sixth Gear

Just curious, when does everyone shift their bike into 6th?? The manual, obviously is crazy. LOL This is my first sixth speed so I want to be sure I am treating my engine properly.

There's been numerous discussions on here in the last several years about this. It's unnecessary under at least 70mph for extended periods. Look at your rpm's... it's best not to lug these motors.

like Wanna Ride said it is really unnessary under 70. I only use my 6th gear when on interstate for extended periods.

I can easily use mine anywhere above 60. It's weird because in the past 5th gear sucked anywhere below 60, but after I changed my slip ons, 5th gear is a comfortable shift at 50, and 6th between 60 and 65. The slip ons are Harley branded slash outs off an 05 or so Dyna model (not specified). Someone just gave them to me, and they literally make my bike run better.

65+. If I'm on a down slope and the motor isn't pulling (just using the compression to slow down) I'll go as low as 60.

But what works on a street bob isn't appropriate for an electra glide - big difference in weight between these 2 machines, so the demands on the engine is less.
