I've never ridden an FXR, I hear lots of good comments about them though.

If you are asking "How so?" about the superiority, it was because the frame was more rigid, and the engine was rubber mounted at three points rather than the Dyna's two.
I have had quite a bit of experience with both, as my son owned a 1992 Lowrider Convertible FXR, and my wife owned a 1997 Dyna Lowrider. The FXR was smoother, the ride was better, and it definately out handled the Dyna.
There is nothing wrong with the Dyna, and I didn't mean to imply that there was, but the only thing it has over the FXR is possibly the twin cam engine, and in my opinion, a good running EVO that has been massaged a little is just as good.
I bought my 86 FXRS last September. Thirteen months and 18,000 miles later, I'm still loving it. I am contemplating buying a bagger and I can't decide if I want to keep it or not. I've got a guy that wants to buy it, but I may just hang on to it instead.
well.....iv'e heard some good points on this topic, the fxr is a great bike and are the reason the dyna's are here today, i ride 1 and love it and im in to shovelheads so the fxr for me is great. i can have my shovel and a 5spd the rubber mounted motor and trans really smooth out the ride, the first year for a FXR was 82 and if you got lucky enoff to get a fxrs in 82 ya got 80ci 5spd with duel dics brakes on the front. they were your first fast harley that handled well...HDs answer to the jap stuff of the times, and in 82 the FXRS was called a superglide2,and on that year willie g sent his best guys through the plant to hand pick the parts, and follow these bikes through assambley redone the heads once again(changed the guides)and the fxrs was born this was the first year of the buy back from AMF so they were made from the best stuff AMF had left over and some new changes HD threw in,they were a low production bike the first year but took of soon after that. long live the FXR I LOVE THEM.
