Default Getting new bars, riser question?

How tall of a riser would I need for drag bars? Bars are 26.5 with I believe 4" pull back or 29" with a 7" pull back. Not sure if I should go with 4.6 or 6" riser, bike is an 03 dyna super.

Thx

Try using either flexible conduit, or coat hanger wire, or some other stiff wire you may have lying around, and mock the bars up following the dimensions given by the manufacturer
- or -
If you have the bars already use them.
- then -
sit on your bike and hold them in a comfortable position and have someone, a friend or your old lady, measure the rise and pull back you need.

I've got a set of 28" bars with 4" of pull back. The cables are a little long, but not bad. Sorry for the crappy picture. I took it for a friend a while back.

In all of my bar/riser experimentation, the 4.5" risers and 28" drag bars gave me the best maneuverability. The bike felt 200 pounds lighter! I ended up going higher just to take up cable slack and wider for better leverage.

Ideally, the 4.5" rise and 31" width would problably have been the best of all.

I'm kickin this idea around now. I tried going with 4" pullback risers with stock FXDC bars. Its pretty good set up but just a tad narrow. I can feel it in my shoulder blades. Lookin at going with straight 6" riser or the 4" pullback risers with drag bars that angle back at grips. Something similar to your T bar set up.

Hey Diesel, I bought some bars the other day by taking HemiOrange's advice and they fit pretty good. (Thanx Hemi!!!).The thing he mentioned to me is that the 26.5" bars that you're thinking of might be too narrow and you'd be looking at your shoulders unless you go for longer mirrors. I'm 6'1 and put a set of cheapo no-name bars on my FXDWG and they are 31.5" with an 8" rise, pull back is anyone's guess. Wild 1's 501 are advertised at something like an 11.5" pullback which would mean that my 4" pullback version bars would be around my junk at cruise!

Ok cool I think I will do the 4.5 with the 31's an try it, the stock setup is pretty close, I just want the straight bar look, and maybe a little lighter feeling to it.

Thanks

It all looks good, Dene. You sure keep a clean looking bike!
