Thanks, Zoopman. I have to admit that he wasn't in the AVG. I just liked the Flying Tigers paint scheme, and nothing else says "WWII airplane" like that.
My uncle was actually a crewman on a C-47. They flew mostly resupply missions, and did a few paratrooper drops in New Guinea. They also supplied Filipino guerrillas.
When I was a kid and found out that he was in the War, my dad told me not to ever talk to him about it, cause he doesn't do that. About ten years ago I got up my nerve and asked my uncle about it anyway, and it turned out that he was happy to talk about it. I was glad I did.
