Default Fork oil change

Just got done changing fork oil on a 2006 Wide Glide. Not to bad to do. Only concern I have is it took approximately 28 oz. to get the 4.4 inches from the top with spring and spacer out and fully compressed. The manual says approximately 26.6 oz. Anyone else run into this.

4.5 would get 28, sure you didn't have the ruler leaning? Just kidding. My understand on a soft tail is drain it and add the required amount. That the length measurement is for checking or adding too if say you had a minor leak or replace the springs and wanted to verify level but mainly for a bench check with fork off after disassembly. Did you take fork off to drain?

Yes took the fork off to drain, as per manual. Pretty sure i did not have the ruler bent much. Just was worried as I added more than the approximate amount and didn't want to put to much pressure on any seals.

Don't worry about the amount, you'll be fine. It's more important that both forks are equally levelled.

The air space above the fluid is what is important. The amount you put in is listed as approximate for that reason. You need enough air space to allow some compression since the fluid will not compress.
