Side mount LP Dilemma...
a. its butt ugly sitting there
b. I will be doing an FL fender conversion soon and I dont want the plate on the new fender
c. its butt ugly sitting up there...
so whats the prob you ask?
Dilemma 1. Over here LPs are nearly double the height of US plates and about a half inch wider so nothing (that i have found so far) after market from the US will fit the plate, which sucks because there is some really good looking plate holders.
Dilemma 2. the law here is that the plate must be fully visible when standing 2 meters (6.5 feet) behind and to the right of the bike, which means that the bracket needs to hold the plate way back, another thing the US made brackets dont do.
Unfortunately the local Gestapo do enforce this and WILL put you off the road, on the spot, until you conform.
The irony is that a standard Softail side mount bracket is long enough (barely) to do the job, but i cant seem to locate one that can be rigged to fit a dyna, any suggestions on this would be most welcome.
I could go and shell out 600 bucks for the one bracket made locally by the 1 guy that does make them here, but 600 bucks is a stupid amount of $$ for a bracket. I just wont pay that on principle. As much as i'd like to fab my own i just dont have the work space or tools to do so.
i dont wanna buy the HD strut mount side bracket cause its butt ugly as well.
appreciate any ideas!
