Default Docking Hardware And Other Questions.

OK, the HD site isn't helping me much as to which hardware, as I have the HD Rigid bags. Most just say with out bags.

Bags:

I also have the Rigid Rack.

Rack:

Does 53961-06 work with saddlebags?

Final question.

Anyone here employing the rigid rack and docking hardware have any clearance issues with the detachable side plates and Rigid rack??

If you have rigid mount bags and go with detachable sideplates I think your current bag spacers are replaced by the docking hardware for the sideplates. As far as clearance issues with a rack I'm unsure.

Those bags are designed for fixed mount. The docking hardware is for bags that come as quick detach.
I have the same bags and I used some 3/8 stainless all-thread, acorn nuts, washers and the spacers that come with the bags to make them on and off in about 3min.
You can definitely mount that rack with this set up.
Heres a picture with the bags off.
Theres a write up on here that I used to come up with my version. The turn sigs have to be relocated or removed like mine. Let me know if you need more info.

Here you go Blockhead, this is the setup fskitch is describing. I don't know for sure about QD hardware working with the rigid rack, but it looks like it should work.

Excellent input, thanks to all.

At this point, I'm not as concerned about removing the bags, but with the Side Plates, 52866-06, clearing the sides if the Rigid mount Solo Rack.

BlockHead, I'll take another stab at answering this for you. Adding the rigid rack will push the docking points about 1/4 inch farther apart. It depends on just what is connected to the detachable sideplates as to how it well it will work. If you are using a medium length back-rest there is enough give that you can pull the sideplates apart enough to easily mate with the docking hardware. If you are attaching something more rigid to the sideplates then you may not be able to pull the sideplates far enough apart to line up with the new width of the docking points.

Why do you want to use QD sideplates with the rigid rack? Doesn't the rigid rack sit right behind the solo seat? What are you expecting to connect to the QD Sideplates?

Rat

Yes, you are correct, the rigid rack sits just behind the solo seat.

I may be taking a different direction as to what I was originally going to do, that being, keeping the rigid rack in place so I can still add the passenger pillion for the wife and giving her a better back rest with the detachable side plate set up. Also, so I can add another rack with the side plate system to maybe mount a tour pack on that. My original intention was to tear down the extra pillion I have and mount a pack on that so I can snap on and off the tour pack when needed. This project has just been completed by another member here.

I don't see how the docking points would be the extra 1/4" or so sticking out when the rigid rack mounts between the fender and inside of the strut. I would probably need longer bolts to hold everything because of the saddlebags and rack. Because of how the rigid rack is made, it kind of bows out from the natural curvature of the fender edge so that's why I'm wondering if the side plates will just clear that bow of the rack. Hope I'm making sense here..

Sorry BlockHead, I clearly was missing the point and didn't realize that the rigid rack mounted inside the struts. Seems like having the rigid rack in the mix is just causing too much extra thrash, maybe you can find another solution that appeals to you. I have Jackyl's TourPak mount attached to my QD sideplates on my Fatbob and that works really well. I normally use a fender bib and solo seat, but in minutes I can toss on a passenger pillion and TourPak.
