Rebuilding Trans
I have an '01 SuperGlide with 44,000 miles and have found metallic particles in the primary oil and the transmission oil. The only symptoms the bike has is a ball bearing/marble rattling sound that I can really hear when coming to a stop and goes away as soon as I stop regardless of being in nuetral or in gear, clutch in or out.
I am doing a rebuild to replace all the bearings and gaskets but the gears all look good and everything turns without any noises or grinding. I won't be able to find out exactly what failed until I can pull the gear set out because I'm having to make the specialized tools needed to pull the inner primary bearing race off the main shaft and to take the nut off the sprocket.
Any tips or suggestions out there for where to best buy the bearings? I want a good price but I don't want to go cheap. Harley? J & P? Andrews?
