Default Heat wrap

I am thinking about wrapping my pipes. I was wondering on how to do it. I read three different ways online. Anyone?

take your pipes off, clean and dry them. drop the whole roll of wrap in a bucket of water. you want the edge of the wrap to face the rear of the bike so if you are only doing one layer then start at the rear. keep the wrap tight as you are wrapping. It's really easy but it is very messy. If I were to do it again, I would do two layers, it is a lot hotter than with the shields on.

+1 however I did not wet the exhaust wrap and got it plenty tight. Less mess too. Once you get the tape on it's gonna take 10-30 mins of riding to burn in. It's gonna smoke and stink like **** so don't be alarmed.

if you can find someone to help you, it goes way easier.

wear rubber gloves and a long sleeved shirt you dont mind throwing out afterwards. tiny fiberglass fragments in your skin itch for days. ask me how i know.

Thanks for the info. If I could find a way for the pipe not to melt my boot I would leave it alone. I do like the look of the wrapped pipe though.

I second that. If I didn't get a great deal on my d&d I was gonna go with your exact pipe. Looks too good to wrap.

+1 on them steps but I add a few more.

1) Before wrap paint area to be wraped with high temp paint to reduce pipes from rusting

2) Use thicker hose clamps that you can tighten. The ones that come with wraps kinda suck

3) After you run the pipes for a couple weeks take off and apply a heat wrap sylicone paint to them. Will help defer water.

In my opionion thicker wrap the better have used the thinner stuff and it's real easy to use but I think not as duriable. Saying the smell will stop after a few not sure about that. Mine smoked for a (couple x 2) of rides. Soak in water easier that way in my opionion. Get new exhaust gaskets also. It's also a real good arm work out.

Read somewhere over wrapping the recommended 1/4" overlap or double wrapping ages the pipe faster. Thoughts on that?

I wrapped my pipe but didn't paint underneath.. I assume you have to scuff up the surface with some sandpaper first?
