I've noticed that if I wrap the FRONT mounts in some self bonding rubber tape (inner tube should work), the voices in my head... er... I mean the rattling stops!
Tried wrapping the BACK mounts, but that just makes it more difficult to operate the release mechanisms.
Here's a completely different idea: If you're going to leave it on all the time anyway, sell it and get a fixed sissy bar. The fixed ones look a lot better on the bike with a cleaner looking installation.
The quick detach stuff is pretty expensive, so I bet you could get a pretty good price for the old one plus the docking hardware selling it here on the forum or on EBAY.

nice bike you got there mr.ed, if you drink more makers they voices go away..
Try a little electrical tape on the black part of the mounting hardware where the latch is and see if that works.
I wrap a piece of electrical tape (1 and !/4 wrap) around the mounts on the bike. Anymore makes it difficult to install or remove back rest. I would try just the rear two mounts first. As that seems to be where 90% of the rattle issue eminates from
Thanks Bob, Appreciate it.. I will surely have to try it. Mine isnt bad when on a nice smooth street but when I get on the rough roads , It starts to makin noise back there. LoL.. It came with the detachable mid height Harley Davidson sissy bar.. But I like how it looks. I got a 2010 Wide glide.
