Well I just finished my memorial project. Adding coolers to my bike. I had the one lower engine mount Jagg cooler but it didnt seem to do enough. I was using the harley adapter w/ thermostat and the Jagg cooler. I now have the Jagg adapter w/o thermostat, the 10row lower cooler still, and 2 6 row deluxe coolers on the down tubes. I plumbed them in series so it goes from the adapter into the 10 row lower then the right side upper then the left upper then back to the adapter. I havent had a chance to fully test out the Temp decrease yet but will be riding later today. Before this change I was seeing 240-270 temps on average. In 70 degree weather after about 1hr freeway ride it would be in the upper 260 range. I was seeing the rear cylinder cut out and it would sometimes kill the bike when waiting at a light after a long freeway run. I am hoping to avoid that problem.
Why not build up some air intake scoops will Cowl flaps on the scoops to control the amount of air passing thru them puppies. I'm curious what is the oil pressure drop while the oil is passing thru all those coils.
I think its interesting, what you have done.
However, I feel you have problems elsewhere, your bike should never be getting hot enough
to go into protect mode after a 1 hour freeway ride in 70ş weather.
Yea I was thinking maybe taking it back to have the map redone but it was even running hotter when stock. But all these temp reading ae taken off the digital Dipstick thIng. So not sure how accurate it is. Jagg informed me there should not be any significant pressure loss with there coolers and adapter. Thus is why I switched adapters. I had feeling maybe the Harley adapter was fouling things up but not sure.
From your hp rating the engine seems to be not overly stessed ..what colour are your pipes ? any popping in the exhaust or intake? how many miles on the engine ? any other oil related changes ?like a different filter?different more restrictive air filter? I would be looking for a lean running problem leading to the high heat or the timing being way off......or be taking it back to the dealer if there is any warrenty left ...you wouldn't last 10 minutes in traffic in LA at 105 degrees
Well a bit of popping on decal but not bad. Only when letting all off. About 2k on the build and 6k on the bike. No other real changes. When it was stock I saw that dip stick temp reach 280 regularly. Same type if stuff happened too. It has been better with the built engine but not where I want it. I also got the idea for this from bob woods's in the wind cooler setup. Im going to see what it does now.
I hope you don't take offense but that just looks ridiculous. If you have a problem with the bike running hot why not just fix the problem. BTW 260 degrees is not a bad oil temp. What oil temp are you trying to maintain? Any oil can handle that temp without complications. If you keep the oil too cool you run into problems with condensation.
Yeah i agree with all the previous statements. Dig a little deeper your problem is elsewhere. ive seen some seriously big inch engines with compressions in the 11s run no cooler, or ya know, just one.
