Great post Curt! I did this a few months back and and your video is exactly how I did it too. Worked perfectly but the video would have been way helpful!
Comment on leaving the shaft...Really it's not a big deal it's just personal preference just like some guys like apes and some don't. I'd say that if you may go back to mids in the future then leave the shaft. If you are not sure then leave the shaft...if you have an eBay account you can always buy another shaft later.
In my case I didn't exactly know how to pull the primary, didn't have the tools and I had a memorial ride in 9 hrs so I did it the easy way by cutting. The Harley kit doesn't come with anything to secure the loose shaft and I didn't want it just tucked down in there. Honestly...all personal preference.
I rode with the shaft just floating around behind the primary for the better part of the summer before I pulled it out. I bought a Softail outer without the shaft hole and plugged the hole in the inner. Cost me the price of gaskets and $25 for the cover. I needed to do the IPB at the time so the gaskets were needed no matter what I did so out came the shaft.
i pulled the bolt on the bottom of the jugs, and put the hole for the shifter linkage throught the bolt and put it back in the jug, keeps it form vibrating and i can go back and forh from mids to fwds as i please, have done it afew times now
Hey Guys, I know i,m new here and all but do any of you know if the sporster 1200s forward controls will work on a Dyna?? That way there is no cutting the shaft it just hooks on shaft sticking out from the primary and shifts from the bottom side, so what do you think???
Thanks
Randy
Thanks for the video. My bike is under warranty so I did not want to remove the primary and mess something up. Now I will order the Kury forward controls and install them myself. The dealer wants $200 to install them.
